"The Master of the Bullwhip" and "The Girl with the Nerves of Steel"

Anyone who has had the oppertunity to see a copy of Brown's
ordinal film contract, would know that he did not make an
enermous salary in the movie business.   His chief
source of income came from his many personal
appearances.

Most of the time he would receive a precentage of the tickets
sold.   Also if he was luvky he could sell.

Program Books, Candy Prise Boxes,
and
black & white 8x10 photos of himself
and keep the money that was taken in from the sales.
This was his real bread and butter.

After the release of his first movie, Brown went on the road
doing what was called one night stands, and over a
period of four years, his roadshows had covered
some eight ststes doing sometimes as many
as three shows a night, plus matiness.

Appearing with him was his wife to be Carol, who was
billed as
"The Girl with the Nerves of Steel"

It was with unfailing accuracy, that Joe could cut a kichen match
from Carol's lips with a prevision cut that came very natural
to him.   He could put out a candle flame, take a leaf off
a tree branch and take a cigarette from her lips in
three peices.   Then wrap his whip around her
waist with a loud crack and never once
hurt her.

The master, was also an expert with both a rifle and a six-gun,
and sharp-shooting was a very popular part of their show.
For their outdoor appearances at fairs, rodeos, and
carnivals Brown would show his skills of showmanship as a
horseman and stunt rider.   He also featured a demenstration of
movie gun-fight and barroom braul.   The adults loved his stage
shows and the kids would scream and yell and usually stay
and watch the serend performance.

Many times Brown would ask a child to come up from the audience
to assist him on stage.   Carol would a place of paper in the childs mouth that was about six inches in length,
and Joe would cut it out with his whip.

The child was naturally scared and some would end up wetting
their pants, which always broke up the whole show with
laughter.
